Wildlife part 1- Nuulife Cinema

Wildlife part 1 by Nuulife Cinema just went online.  I spent a day with skier Dave Treadway and filmer David Craig, last spring, and a couple of the shots from that day made it into the movie.  It's a rail and backcountry freestyle heavy flick,  but a bit of what i do, made it in there, nonetheless.  i have a 30 second part that starts at 5:53.

whistler museum "evolution of skiing in whistler"

Stoked and honoured to have this photo of myself as a back drop in the snowboarding portion of "the evolution of skiing in whistler" exhibit at the Whistler Museum .  It was amazing that Bradley Slack captured that moment, and it is super rad to see it in such a large format... The exhibit is super rad, go check it out.

Opening Day

Season opener on whistler... hit a few groomers early morning ,but once the gate cracked, we hiked up to the peak.. As expected, she is lean out there, but pretty shred-able in the alpine.

the hollow- even high tree-line was decent
Only early-season is this place not shrapled immediatly..

mountain life article

i wrote a small piece for the fall/winter edition of mountain life magazine.  It started out as something different, but i am happy with how it turned out.  I am super happy to see this Delaney Zayac photo go to print, it is killer. It was a magical morning!

Volkl Snowboards 2013-14 Catalogue

i went on a fun trip last march with the euro-volkl snowboards crew.  We battled the weather a bit, but still managed to find some fun stuff to ride in the Revelstoke area.  This triple stack shot made it into the recent volkl snowboards catalogue .

Morning Shreds

It takes all season for these lines to shape up.. I  got to drop into a sweet one.. Dave Treadway photo
It seems like you got to trust your gut with the weather, and get up early and take the chance it could be shitty and go for it.  The weather forecasts are notoriously shitty and vague this time of year.  If its clear when you go to bed, you better set your alarm.  I have had better luck this year, just looking outside.

At this is point in the line it has turned into a awesome powder party

Pretty sure it was April 14.. but when you are this rad, the date doesn't matter.

April 11

The morning started out as a milky mixed bag..
but then it popped... we tested the waters on some small slopes, and finding good stability, we moved to some bigger stuff.  Dave Treadway shreds a spine

The earth turned a bit, making this line look sweet.. Dave T finds some powder snow
I found powder snow, and some crunk too.

Backyardin

I have been playing email tag with Justin Lamoureux for a bit of the winter, but I finally got to join him on one of his missions in his "backyard". Justin is trying to ride all the mountains he can see from his house in Squamish, which I think is about 30 or so. I guess he can see the backside of this one, and from knowing what was on the otherside, we were both stoked to ride it...
Some sweet views, with lots of potential in the area..

Successful first descent by justin.. # hashtag  no ones ever skied this exact spot
Justin
Lots of fun lines to ride.. shaded and looking sweet. I had my eyes on a long broad spine line out of view.
The snow felt like it had settled out nice, but we were pretty sure the top pocket was going to let loose, so we decided to cut a chunk of cornice off. Not that much fell off, but what did fall off, hit the sweet spot onslope ,and cracked off a decent sized avy, that ran the entire face.
pow cloud below hitting the runout
We decided to shred the slope, as she was pretty cleaned out now... We did our best to avoid hangfire, but we still managed to find some decent snow left on the walls.. The bed surface was firm, and I saw my reflection at one point.
Lots of shit rumbling off the walls, as it warmed up, it was time to get out of there
It's a jungle sometimes

Beauty Beast

Our morning started very early..  For breakfast we ate avy chunder, and icy vertical bobsled tracks. Our first major wreck happened around 530 am.. It must have been a sign, telling us to  "call it a day" or "never give up."  Signs can be confusing.
Once we got on foot, things got a bit simpler. Mie Yamashita, attacks from the back.
Dave Basterrechea, for some reason was breaking trail.. I probably should have carried him on my back after the morning beating he took.
Its pretty special top of this peak..The north face starts to reveal itself
Spine heaven.. a bit leaner this year, so only one prominent spine truly goes the whole way. A spine that Daryl Treadway skied last year, wasn't happening this year.
The snow was cold and perfect.. It sloughed like crazy and thundered down the face.. Second year in a row, my gorb pro fucked up for some reason ( gorb operator error), so no shaky boring footage for you to look at.  If you like i could post the 15 minute clip of nothing, i recorded.. Its pretty sick.

Mie and Delaney shredded the lit up north east spines, with similar results of sweet pow and good times. A little bit of exposure.
Mie drops into the northside from the east.
The following photos were from last year on the same mountain, taken by awesome dude photographer , Brad Slack, for a article I wrote in Frequency TSJ. Going back this year really made me appreciate some of the images Brad captured on that trip..   a photo on the northeast spines
A gorb pro photo looking down the north east spines

Dropping into the North wall
I have been lucky over the years to have friends who carry cameras.. Some stories are hard to tell without visual aid..
It gets a bit steep.   Brad slack photo.
RIP Jack Hannan. We do our best to pay tribute to you, everytime we go into the mountains.
